attempted robbery, item: dignity.

(reposted from another blogpost—written last october 2008)

if you are lucky, as i am, or as popular, and blessed, and admired (ahem ahem hehe) as i am, there would always be one, two or three or a minion even of individuals or maybe groups who would get jealous of you, and envy you with all the earned fame *gulongmunaakoparatumawa* and good fortune (haruuuu asaaaaan?)… in their desparation they would try the impossible, yet nonetheless try, with all their might, to rob you… not with your fame and fortune because they proved to be real pathetic and sorry they were not really born of it even if they would storm heavens of prayers and supplications day in and day out— and so instead, they’ll try to put you down and trample on you, well at least that way, if they did become succesful in the chosen career, then that could be their only key to be at par with you.

they allow themselves to accept their lost of dignity.
so they’ll try to rob you too out of it.

their folly? is that they had no real research on the nature of dignity. dignity is not a material thing that one dons on him/herself and strut on the battlefield of life. not a dress to take off when we sleep or not a dress to be kept in the dresser reserved for special occassions.

dignity is inherent, intrinsic and unconditional. born in the human race, we all are entitled of our dignities. laws internationally even would state that human dignity is inviolable and that state authorities are bound to respect and protect it. we are all born to have it in the same amount when we start with this life. upholding our dignity as we grow up to be persons and individuals makes a difference to the total dignity we keep during the journey and in the end of our lives.

most people would inadvertently accept that they lost their dignity thus act in the manner without it. but truth is— we cannot lose it, as it is inherent in us. its seeming absence in the way some people act is in their consent that they do not have dignity and so they act in ways that abhor others.

lately and currently (as they seem to be so pathetically determined), i was facing up to this attempts to rob me and strip me naked of my own dignity. in their persistence that merits award and recognition, i would give some credits to these individuals for their ingenuity and expert engineering of events and situations that had caused me to doubt the person that i am. yes, as much as i hate to admit it, but their poison was well aimed to be able to touch and make contact with my tough skin.

but as i ponder on the person that i am… the past that has molded me, the present that has challenged me, and the future that awaits me… it made me reconsider in giving in to the insanity of accepting their idea of me that is so different from the me that people come to reaffirm daily and constantly.

i realized that, my worth, my character, my soul, and the dignity i had so painstakingly worked for, earned, and enjoys now, is a part of me that no one can make a dent, nor tamper with, nor harm, nor kill, nor even be taken away. even if i would not take guard of it, in fact, there’s no need to guard it at all. it has been resilient, flexible and maleable and yet has remained in its perfectly imperfect shape that is “me” all these time.

that’s the way our worth and character works for each one of us. i am no unique human specie thus have no monopoly of this ability. people just are not well informed on this.

nobody can take away from you the person that you are.

not unless you have issued a license for them to do so.
not unless you give them power by believing them.
